As the World Cup is currently held in Qatar, the human rights abuses in this country have been revealed. Thousand of migrant workers died building the infrastructure for the event, and the LGBT+ community also criticised Qatar – as homosexuality is illegal in Qatar.
A Guardian investigation showed that Bromley council is one of several UK councils who deposits money in Qatar National Bank accounts.
Bromley Green Party members expressed their concerns by writing to the council. See below for more details.

A Conservative councillor replied with the following:

We replied to this again highlighting that we did not mention illegality – but that this was an issue of ethics and morals. We further asked whether we could publish the reply by the council (to which the councillor agreed – see also below).
